Robert Burns Night: Sunday, January 25th (2015)

Burns Night

January 25th marks the annual celebration of Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns.

(although my Scottish grandmother called him Bobbie Burns)

25 January 2015 is Sunday night, so there’s still time to plan a fun event.

Maybe not haggis, but how about this?

Now, memorize this first stanza of Robert Burns “To a Mouse”

Wee, sleekit, cow’rin, tim’rous beastie,
O, what a panic’s in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi’ bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an’ chase thee,
Wi’ murd’ring pattle!

Next, memorize the first stanza of “A Red, Red Rose.”

O my Luve’s like a red, red rose,
That’s newly sprung in June:
O my Luve’s like the melodie,
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.

Now, nibble on an oatmeal cookie.
